Pipe Insulation

Member Posts: 65
I have a one-pipe steam system with dry returns. The previous owner abated the asbestos insulation from the basement pipes but did not re-insulate. I want to paint and insulate the pipes now. My questions are 1.) Is it necessary
to also insulate the dry returns or are they better left bare to help the condensate cool? 2.) Is it necessary (or helpful) to also insulate all my new near boiler piping (risers, offsets and header) or not?
Thanks

Insulation
Our general rule of thumb when we hire an insulator is to insulate all piping above the water line of the boiler. Max energy savings with that.
