Be careful what you wish for

Here is a Web portal where people can voice their complaints against businesses or products. The latest newsletter includes a woman who complains about the diminishing selection of men's and women's underwear at some Wal Mart stores. Problem is, her name and e-mail address are included in the complaint that is available to any Web site visitor or subscriber to the complaint newsletter (sign up for it -- it is amusing).

Even worse is the potential for damaged reputations at "ripoffreport.com." People can slam you without you even knowing it and they can get away with it. I know a contractor who was viciously slammed and is still embroiled in a legal battle to clear up his name. But the damage has been done.

Beware of these Web sites and remember, one bad word about you can negate 100 good words.
