have a job with a standard 1 pipe steam main condensate flow in thew same direction of flow as the steam but here's the kicker there's a drop down into a wet return but before it is below the water level about 6 inch below the steam main there's a tee with a counter flow branch it picks up 4 rads it originally was a counter flow but made alot of noise and didn't heat well some one tryed to drip the end of it's main and still no improvement i was going to re pitch it back to the counter 1 inch per ft. get rid of the drip return my big question is should the end of this counter flow main have a steam vent on it or let the rads vents do the work.and if it does get a venrt shoulkd it be installed 8 to 10 inches before the end of the main. thanks for any input

The Vent for that entire main

should be near the end of the counterflow section. But before you install it, see if the pipe is big enough for the radiation. Counterflow mains must be one size larger than parallel-flow mains for the same radiation load. This allows the steam and the water to keep out of each other's way, preventing banging.
