peerless steamer problem

Has anyone had any problems with peerless steam boilers running out of water during their steam cycle. I have a 6106 thats been in place since May that keeps going off on low water. The returns are clear and condensate seems to be coming back ok. The boiler matches the connected load. thanks.....

If ya ain't able
to account for the loss of water, it my be going up the chimney! A cracked boiler above the water line is the culprit. Look at the chimney top, and see if there is a load of steam coming from it. Good luck0 -
me thinks
you'll need joe's equalized tank...i will dig up his instructions...0 -
don't think thats the problem
It's a brand new boiler. No steam coming from the chimney0 -
equalizing tank
gerr can you post it on here0 -
here are a couple of pictures
this is in a Mouat vapor system.0 -
Is there anything about the system
that would cause that Peerless to generate more steam than usual, such as uninsulated pipes or bad or missing main vents, or the pressuretrol set too high?

steamhead....not really
mains are insulated, 3 Gorton # 2's for venting, and vaporstat set with the main @ 4 and the differential @ 2ozs.0 -
It may be dirty
in which case it's generating wet steam, which uses up more water. Try cleaning it.

Ahh Yes...
I had a steamer do that same thing to me 2 years back. Piped to specs. Insulated well, the works! She would steam and slowly go off on low water. I followed Dan's advice and "Got out of the boiler room"... What I found was a clevis hanger that was removed, causing a VERY slight sag in the steam main. Reconnection of that hanger, made that ol' girl purr liked a horney 18 year old! GOOD LUCK...STG0 -
Yes
It doesn't happen often to us , but it does happen . It will be running for steam for a while , just a little water in the sight glass , then poof - all gone . Could be like Steamhead said - wet steam leaving the boiler , especially on a new install . If memory serves me , theres only 5 or 6 inches of height before the Hartford Loop with the 61 series ( I think they were the G series when I used to install em ) . Not much water content at all .
Very nice install Steve .0 -
Pending
any leaks that may show up is the boiler possibly trying to make more steam than it's set for per/hr and the feedwater makeup can't keep up before going off on low water.
Are you experiencing heating issues?
Not only should the original problem be solved I would start to wonder if the city makeup is even trying to keep up, and also why the condensate may not be returning quick enough.
The eternal question, "where is it all going"0 -
no leaks in the system
the system has 490 sq. ft. edr .boiler was originally over fired from the factory by 25,000 btu's . we corrected that. boiler was skimmed 3 different times, totalling about 8 hours of skim time. also measured 3.5 gallons of boiler water from the normal water line to the low water cut off line. all the water does come back to the boiler0
