Dave, here are some pics of the Munchkin vented underground, this is a job that has been on going for over a year, the homeowner is doing alot of it hisself and has had various carpenters doing things part-time. The muchkin on the right has been running since April, I have yet to start the other one.
This log home "cabin", has radiant in the floor, plates for the first floor, with Unico for supplemental heat and A/C.

Also thanks to ME, you can see that I have a pressure tank to pressurize the system, but there is a washing machine hose that I can take off so that it can't flood too much,if there is a leak, being that this is just a "vacation" home to be used mostly a few weekends a year.

The vent pipes are in the center of the driveway turn around and you can see the cap of the buried 1000 gal propane tank there also. Once the landscaping is done I will cut the pipes down and paint them to blend in with everything.

    Cool beans!

That's a big help & Jeff Cook, The Munchkin Man, has been great with his input too. I've been hired as a consultant to re-design a flubbed radiant installation and one of the dilemmas was how to vent. There is but one place where a vent could be terminated, but it was a borderline spot with regard to products of combustion returning via an open window or door.

The existing boilers are vented directly under a window and within three feet of the gas meter and - here's the kicker - right smack in the center of the home's front and grand entrance. They're making domestic too, so the venting issue gets a lot more dramatic. The building inspector should have his knuckles rapped by Sister Imaculata with a three-cornered metal ruler for missing such blatant errors.

Bingo! With winter fast approaching, the owners are getting mighty angry that the builder left them in limbo while waiting for the installer to make corrections. Installer claims there's nothing wrong with the installation. OK, if that's true - why can't they get the second floor above 50 F on a cold day? The owners have learned a great deal since we last met and are becoming self taught regarding radiant work. Now that the builder has hired me to do the new designs, I made communicating directly with the owners a first priority in my terms. In previous visits, I wasn't able to communicate with them in any detail because of being muzzled.

Here's a clue - staple up - no plates - no insulation - carpeted floors - buckled hardwood - cold tile floors. D'oh! Makes for toasty warm radiant ceilings though!

In the older section of the home where free standing CI rads live, they have a communicating thermostat that doesn't communicate. So, they turn on the heat in the morning & let it run until that side gets to 80+ degrees, turn off the heat and let it ride. On milder days, they can wait until evening & ramp it back up again. On cold nights, it gets down to frigid temps indoors overnight & this is the children's wing. Kids play room has copper fin tube BB, which didn't mix well with the CI, so the solution was to add a CI rad & its piping resides a foot away from the wall & stays a foot away for most of its run! Yup, there's nothing wrong with that set up eh?
