Two pipe steam help!

Elektra

I bought a 1920s home last year and the oil was converted to a gas furnace running a two pipe steam system. The pressuretrol keeps cutting off the furnace before the home heats to the set temperature. I've flushed the system till clean water runs out of it. Clearly it seems loke ther is an obstruction leading pressure to build up- the HVAC people Ive asked seem to know nothing about steam-even the guys who put the new furnace in about 5 years ago. Any suggestions or direction I can take?

    the pressuretrol

will often shut the burner down before the thermostat is satisfied. The pressuretrol just controls the pressure in the system not the temp in the room

Sometimes the pressure is high and the pressuretrol shuts down the burner without heating the rooms because the vents are not working.

Where are you located? The find a contractor feature at the top of the page might put you in touch with some good steam people.

    regards,

    your system is

probably a vapor system judging by the age of your house. Vapor systems need vaporstats to work well. These systems were designed to run at 8 ozs. or less. If you run them at higher pressures you can blow steam into the dry return and cause your system to shut down on pressure. What pressure is your system set at?
