Trane Vapor system Re-Piping (Steamhead)
I hope you had a power threader for all that 3 inch . I can't believe you were able to leave the wood supports up there boxing in the ducts . Very tough and tedious work in a tight spot .
Is it a definite you will be going back to repipe the boiler also ? Or are you gonna let it run for a while and see how it behaves ?

This old Trane
Was butchered when the basement was remodeled. They wanted to move the steam main and dry return and the subcontractor insisted he could handle it. But he piped it all in copper, with concentric reducers, and no insulation. About a third of the house quit heating.
These are views of the old copper as we were tearing it out. What a waste of material.

New black steel piping
We cut, threaded and installed 3-inch pipe without removing the entire bulkhead. You don't need to go to the gym after you've hefted this stuff into place!
The copper paralleling the new black pipe is the dry return, which the sub split into two parts. We left that since it doesn't carry steam.

Looking down toward the other end
where there's another eccentric reducer from 2-1/2-inch to 2-inch before it goes into the next room.

And it comes out here
into what used to be the laundry room as 2-inch. You can see the other section of the relocated dry return that was split off from the original. It went right into a nearby wet return and air couldn't vent, so I moved one of the Gorton #2 vents from the boiler room- you can see the bottom half of it.
We also added a loop seal where the dry return hit the old wet return, since the old wet return was now dry too, letting air and steam move thru it. This was contributing to the distribution problems.

We insulated today
Here's Pop measuring a piece of pipe insulation, and Jesse from Newport Builders (GC on this job) who was sent to help out, installing a piece of 3-inch. This family is going to be very comfortable from now on.

The Boiler Room
Weil-McLain EGH-85, in good shape but it has a mis-piped header. The old Direct Return Trap is long gone, and you can see the remaining Gorton #2 where the dry returns come together.
We'll be back!

looks like a fun job
and the right crew is on the job now.....0 -
Don't know yet
But whatever work that system needs, I'm sure we'll get it. I'd love to see a 3-inch drop header on that Weil.
And I thought of you when we were installing that pipe- it's almost the same as one of your hanging boiler jobs!
