I posted a few days ago about what I thought was an overfired boiler, and the water leaving the boiler too quickly and shutting off on low water. I have purchased the lost art of steam heat, and the video seminar, and a pocket full of steam problems(with solutions!)a couple of weeks ago, and he mentioned high water ph, I tested the water and the ph level is at 12, I am hoping this is the problem, but my main question is how did it get that high? I drained the boiler and refilled it, and the tap water reads 7.5 ph.
Thanks again,
Phillip

boiler water ph
An old saying boiler operators use is" 8.0 fire must go!!!!"0 -
sometimes colloid is added
to the boiler..the colloid we use takes 6 cap fulls to raise a gallon of water to a ph of 11..so if you have say twenty gallons of water and someone puts a quart in the boiler..well, the whole boiler is probably a ph of 11 then..0
