When refilling boiler do you add any thing to the new water?

I have hot water heat and I was wondering if you would adding anything to the new water that you put into the heating system when refilling the boiler. Thanks

Need to know what kind of boiler ie steam or hot water

I have a 1947 york hot water bolier ( ithink it could be used for stream to but I use it at as a hot water boiler)This is for my personel house, and I am not sure how many gallons the system is, I have a basement 1st floor and 2nd floor with old cast iron raditaors. Ihave a total of 8 or 9 of them. thanks
P.S the wtaer I use is well water, if My well ever stopped I do have a back up of spring water.0 -
