From one plumber to another, there are so many possibilities, but far too little info to come up with the right answer. Need to know things like: boiler size and firing rate, size of mains, system load, piping arrangement and on and on and on....can be very puzzleing situation at time. Go back with a fresh mind and think like water: what's the easiest path to take and why? The solution is there and is staring you in the face. Be smarter than that collection of metal and figure it out. May be simply ghost flow and a second flow check on the return may do the trick.
Sorry I can't be of more help, but info too limited here. Good luck.

    Migrating hot water

I have a problem with the supply water out of a boiler migrating without the circulator running.I have installed new check valves and also installed a 12" thermal trap on the supply side. The hot water only goes in the correct direction of flow. Any info would be very helpful.Thank you.

    I think that...

One of Dan Holohan’s books ( and I can’t recall which one) suggests using spring check valves on both the flow and return pipes. The spring check valves exerts sufficient resistance to the flow to be able to stop gravity ghost flows, but are pushed open by the differential pressure when the pump starts.
