Three Steam boilers

concur on the trap.

With out non-return valves or having to use the stop valves to bring the boilers on line it would probably be the most economical choice.

    Three Steam Boilers

I was at a school yesterday and they have three large steam boilers feeding a bunch of baseboard and convectors along with a steam to water heat exchanger. The system oil low fire start burners. The system was put in in 1958. The complaint is that the maintance guy at the school has to kind of manualy stage the boilers because if one of the boilers is not running it will fill up with water (obviously). The boilers are working off of their own pressure switches. I was thinking that it would be a good idea to fire all burners at once (or almost all at once) on low fire and if the pressure switches call for mor pressure to go ahead and bring all burners up to high fire at the same time (or with close to the same time). I have lost my "Lost art of Steam", I guess it is time for me to purchase another one. Any input would be helpfull.
    Thank you

  • Hi Bill,

Good to see you again. You're the guy that started the whole dropped header club here on the wall. Little known fact.

Do those boilers have a spill trap on the equalizer, just above the waterline? Is it two pipe with a vented tank? Pump for each boiler, and check valves?

    multiple steam boilers

Bill, we have asimilar set-up here. We have spill traps on both boilers and installed a Heattimer staging control for the boilers...like a Tekmar 262 but for steam. It works great and saved a huge amount of money for our customer. If your supplier doesn't carry them, Heattimer is repped by Interstate Electric. Called Randy Gilman @ 1-800-989-2289 and tell him Al from ACL P&H told you to call him...they've got your solution for staging those boilers.
