When designing a snow melt system, should drainage for the melted snow be taken care of, or do you just let it run off into the street?

Snowmelt drain
We put a trnch drain at the bottom of the drive and ran a 3" PVC line to a 50 gal drum with holes punched in it. Works fine. Be sure to run your heat loop around the trench drain to keep it from freezing up.0
