needle valve

The only applications where I've seen needle valves used, are ones in which there is a need for REALLY precise control of a flow. They're FAR more precise than globe valves. It's like the difference between a tape measure and a machinists micrometer or caliper. I'm having trouble imagining a heating application where this precision would be required, and if nothing else, I think the pressure drops across them will be brutal.

needle valve
I have a blue print where the architect is specing needle valves at each branch off the riser (for baseboard)0 -
Balancers?
He probably did that so the flow to each baseboard could be fine-tuned.
