Looking for good heating/AC contractor in RI.
The find a contractor tool finds Chuck Shaw, who has to pass on this.
A friend of mine owns a home in Costal RI, Adamsville or Little Compton (Zip 02837). I help them out in many ways and they know that Steam heating is my hobby and that I am on the heatinghelp website all the time.
They are asking me about the best way to heat and cool the place as it does not have heat today. I'm told that it is a 1,600 Sq. foot home converted from a barracks. Cinder block foundation, crawl space, no basement, and no heating system. They are looking to use the place more and perhaps year round.
And, the husband is a world class concert pianist. He needs to have a string piano in the place to keep his fingers exercised and his ear tuned.
The heating system can not dry out the air to the point it harms a very good piano, and in the summer it can no become too humid.
Without looking at it I can not advise, however, forced air and electric baseboard are out. Without the basement, steam is likely out, so some form of hot water is about the only way to go for the heat. (In my thinking)
So, do you anyone good in that area?
Let me know,
George Berkeley

Heating
Hello,
We also live in the coastal southern part of RI - It sounds like your friend could use a radiant heat system for the floor - no dry air or humidity. I suggest you look into it. However, as you might have noticed from recentt email messages from someone else in RI on the 'wall' - make sure you find the right contractor before proceeding with any job like this.
sincerely -

heating help in RI
There is nobody in particular that you should avoid in your search for a contractor to help you in the heating - or even heating questions. However, you should make sure the person who is helping you undeerstands your friends heating needs and knows what they are talking about. There were several emails on the 'wall' recently discussing such a problem when people who didn't know what they were doing regarding heating were hired for a job and it only created problems. That was the thread of the earlier emails concerning heating. Always be careful ...... but you knew that already, right?

George, I am a Radiant Heat contractor here in RI. Radiant Heat and Snow-Melt is our only business. You will not find us in the phone book or the paper as we do not advertise. Our customers and our systems do that for us. I have houses that I have done down by the beaches and I will be starting one early next week in Charlestown. If your friend is interested in doing Radiant you can give us a call at 401-356-0230.
I dont show up on Find a Contractor because I was getting too many calls to do Baseboard and Hot Air jobs. If anyone needs work and does good work they should be on Find a Contactor. (Dan you can buy me a beer at the next Wetstock). My company name is Advanced Comfort Systems, Inc.
