Does anybody know where I could find some old steam radiators for a building I am renovating - built in 1920's?
Looking for 7 tube - 16.5"
Also looking for ceiling mount units.
From Aberdeen SD - Northeast SD
Fargo/SiouxFalls/Minneapolis Area
Thanks

Salvage yards; demolition companies; antique/junk stores; used building material suppliers; heating companies (air better unless the hydronic ones have an abundance); yards in front of houses.
The low (window radiators) you're talking about are often the most difficult to find.
They're available new but are quite expensive.

Check the scrap yards
I have gotten dozens of old cast iron radiators (some are real beauties) from local scrap yards. Takes a little time sorting through the pile to find the ones that survive being tossed off a pick up truck, but you'd be surprised how many do. Obviously you have to pressure test them first, but when you get a bad one you can sell them back to the yard. I like being able to save a piece of history.0 -

Old radiators for sale, don't know if it's your neck of the woods, but might be worth checking into.

Got 'em...problem with old rads is............................
paying for the shipping to get them where they have to go. There was a guy here last year who was willing to give away 12 ornate radiators......in New Mexico. If you could verify what you wanted and that they weren't leakers, AND you could afford the rads PLUS the shipping, then it makes sense. I'v e driven to Boston for rads, but that's only 5 hours. Sorry for wrong picture. Mad Dog

I have lots of radiators of various sizes. But I am in the Denver area. Probably too far to drive. I love radiators and will save all I can get. I sometimes wonder if I really make any money when you figure the cost of the labor to remove them and to store them. But I still love them. Here is a small sample of some of the ones I have. There was an error rendering this rich post.

Travis .... to bad.........
You didn't need them 2 years ago. I posted some on the wall, no takers so they went to the scrap yard. I'm down in Howard. Not sure who owns the property now but there are a bunch of radiators in the old Carthage SD high school, ceiling mounts also but if my memory doesn't fail me they were made up out of pipe with left and right hand headers.0 -
Re: Need Old Radiators
Travis, There are two good sources in the downtown Minneapolis area: Bauer Bros Salvage (I think Bauer is correct - if you can't find them drop me an e-mail and I'll check my files), and Frank Plumbing Supply.
Bauer is less expensive and has hundreds to choose from. Frank is more expensive and doesn't have as many, but does have more ornate radiators. Both of these companies pressure-test before sale and will ship or you can pick up yourself.0
