Heat Timer Problems

Member Posts: 1
I am a condominium Trustee in the Boston area not looking forward to the
winter heating season. The building is approximately 60+ years old, our
boiler is a Weil-McLain and is approximately 10 years old. We have a
Heat-Timer EPU unit regulating temperature by monitoring outside
temperature. The unit was manufactured in 1997.
Our service provider has said that the timer function on this unit is
faulty such that the whole unit needs to be replaced. Provider wants to
replace the unit with a digital one at a cost of approximately $4K.
So, here are a couple of questions:
1. Have anyone had experience with products from Heat-Timer?
2. If so, what would be your estimate of the life span of this unit?
Any other info you would care to add would be helpful.
TIA,

I think the heattimer control for steam is excellent
We don't like to discuss prices here, BUT, that sounds fair. You didn't say hot water or steam. For steam stay with heattimer, hot water, Tekmar makes a fine product. They should last for many years of service 25 or more. Mad Dog

Heattimer has improved the....
The steam control used to need tweaking for fall or spring, vs. COLD weather. They have changed the steam control to do this itself.
Talk to them about it. I like the concept, and it works better, now. Good stuff.

heattimer
Paxton Corporation makes very good inexpensive steam and hot water boiler controllers. You may want to compare these to what you have now.0 -
I prefer Tekmar
I've been using the Tekmar 269 control with much success. I'm very happy with their customer service, too.

EPU H/T
I believe Heat-Timer will still repair that unit. That said, 4K for a new MPC Gold Heat-Timer is a bargain.
The advantages are temperature responsive warm up & cool down cycles, thermal lock out feature, 7 day multiple programming cycles, & field selectable cycle timing.
I have 25+ year old Model E & ETP controls in the field. However, the EPU has had some problems, & Leo has moved to Florida.0
