I have a quick question; is a well expansion tank just like a expansion tank on a heating system, you set the precharge for the operational pressure?

    Absolutely

    In the well-x-trol you set the pre-charge 2or3 psi below the cut in setting of your pressure switch. This is so the switch doesn't get faked out and you get that momentary lag with no water.
