in southern York County, lies a home whose age dates back to the 1700's. Sometime in the late 1800's or early 1900's a one-pipe vapor steam system was added and worked off of king coal. The neighboring railway station no doubt brought that from the Pennsylvania coal regions, perhaps even where my Grandparents lived in Pottsville.
Along the way, the old gal was converted to oil and later on, gas. But she gave up the ghost several years ago and along came a "heating" firm. No connected load was performed, nor any sort of heat loss. In fact, the replacement boiler that was installed exceeds the connected load by a factor of x2!!! The long lengths of floor level wet returns weren't replaced either. Bang, clang & dang!
Sleepless nights ensued and the "heating" guy refused to return. Others have looked and scratched their heads. But the answers were staring each of them in the face - if they'd only opened up Burnham's installation manual to the page with drawings! Dim A is shot to hell, there's no header and forget that equalizer too - that stuff costs money.
Burnham engineers helped with derating info so we don't hurt the new gal & we'll be repiping for library type quietness. A vaporstat will be joining the control package and those wet leg returns get replaced too.
The footprint on the instruction booklet tells its own story about what happened.

is back, but I haven't had time to reassemble the components - yet. Spent a very wet Friday/Saturday night/morning attempting to camp out with Scouts in a newly renovated township park. They wanted us there for security and to present Colors during their grand opening. The event was canceled Sat morn, so we broke camp in the pouring rain and headed to my place where they commenced cooking breakfast & parents came to retrieve the little wet heads (literally).
The rest of my weekend revolved around drying out the gear and building a wild west building front for this weekend's Saffari (about 3,000 Scouts expected). Our building front is an old west saloon!
But I'll have the camera back up & running before we hit the beaches(G).
