steam furnace

I have a problem with a gas steam boiler Dunkirk Series 0890 Model IBF-62-MV 15 PSI.
I bought a house - it passed inspection. Then I had work done in the house,
including removing a radiator and capping it. I turned on the cold water feed
which I had turned off before draining the system, and I got water coming out
of the radiator bleed vents. So I let out some water until the water level in the tube
is half the boiler height, turned on the boiler.

It fired once, for a few minutes, now nothing. Thermostat is on 80, temp is now 64.
I can hear the pilot light burning.
Gauge reads 5 PSI, though I understand the gauge is probably not precise enough.
(This is a 2.5-story house) Thanks for your help.

Have a pro clean the pigtail

under the gauge and Pressuretrol. If it clogs, it won't let the pressure escape back into the boiler and the Pressuretrol will stay "off".

Five pounds is too high for a residential steam system. These systems were designed for a maximum of 2 pounds, and should circulate steam thru the entire system on a few ounces.

    system problems

What type of water level regulator is in place for this boiler? If you don't have an automatic feeder and a low water cut-off, have a qualified contractor put them in. Definately have an accurate guage installed, and get your pressure control squared away. Keep us posted!
