More than one boiler

We are planning to replace our very, very old 1.3 Million BTU boiler for a 11,000 sq ft building. We have been told that a 500,000 to 750,00 will be adequate based on radiator measurements. Can we put in 2 or 3 boilers to run as needed for this one-pipe steam system? We have been told this is possible. Space for the boilers is not a problem.
Can you give me any thoughts on this?

    No - IMHO

Not unless you want alot of problems. The key to steam is the radiators which I assume are on one feed system now and not easily zoned. Sure you can have 2 or 3 or 4 boilers running at once but the water level balance issues can be tricky unless you have a feed or condensate pump. Usually the only reason to go smaller with steam is to keep under the 400K input residential catagory for insurance and inspection issues. If you have a 2 pipe system the 2 boiler option is more viable. Perhaps Glen S. from Burnham can comment on this.
