Replace of boiler jacket

Preseason service of a 35 yearold 125,000 Hydro Therm gas boiler called for the removel of sheet metal jacket and insulation. After the strip down and clean up all C.I. sections& burners look like new. How would the replacement of spunglass insulation and old jacket with 1 1/2" or 2" mineral wool and new 24 ga. steel jacket effect the boiler saftey / performance?
