radiant using water heater

just looked over a job the contracter says its ok to use a waterheater to heat the radiant loop he says hes just completed 4 remodeling jobs doing it this way im wondering if its legal in Ma. to use a waterheater as heat source? by the way he has not done a heat loss on the addition i will be doing that myself

This came up some time ago on
Oil Tech talk and NO it is not normally legal. There are a few heaters that can be used but they must have approval from the MA Plumbing Board. There are only a very few, beat bet is to go here:

BTW Ed, they have pulled permits (oil and gas), a couple of licenses and one guy almost got an all expense paid in month in Shirley.0
