Drain valve & Tee for boiler return question

What do I use for a tee for a drain valve on the 1" returns to my boiler?

I looked for a 1"x1"x3/4"thread, but can't find one at Lowes or HD.

Should I buy a 1x1x3/4 (all sweat) and solder a nipple and adapter so it accepts a valve? Or should I take a ride to a the plumbing supply counter and ask for what - an adapter tee?

Thanks.

    Drain valve tee

It depends, I assume you want the drain valve on the 3/4" part of the tee? If so, just buy the 1"x1"x3/4" sweat tee and a 3/4" "fitting by female adapter". This will fit into the 3/4" socket and have female threads on the other end. Into that you can thread a 3/4" male boiler drain.

Now as for the tee, if you specify a 1"x1"x3/4" tee, the first two numbers are the "run" of the tee and the last number is the "branch" of the tee, so this will be 1" straight through and 3/4" on the branch. If you want the drain at the bottom of a drop or return, you want a 1"x3/4"x1" tee. 1" reducing to 3/4" on the run and 1" on the branch.

    Hope this helps.

    Yes.

Is it OK to use a boiler drain on something that's not actually a boiler drain? On each of my three zone returns I now have what look like basic hose bibs with blue knobs.

    Yes, I understand.

    Thanks.
