You also get a percentage of radiant heat from CI baseboard and you can run it at a lower temperature.

I have my system set up by a contractor, with me to run the radiation, fintube. After all my reading here I am sold on CI baseboard instead of the fintube. My system is set up with 1 circuiting pump and ZV's. If I go the extra pop for the CI will I get the real benifit without a constant circutlation? Or is it in my best intrest to have some re-piping done to have constant circutlation on the zones that have CI.?

    constant or not

In my opinion I dont think it absolutely necessary, the big thing to me about cast rads is the mass and once it gets hot it stays hot for quite a while. Thats what I like so much over fin tube, the cycle rates are much less with cast.

    CI base

Pipe it with a reverse loop or possibly mono-flo. don,t do series loop like fin tube

I have planned to pipe in a reverse return, but my conserns are to get the true benifits of CI, should I have constant cir.

    Cast iron

While constant , or near constant circ. is good, it not necessary to achieve benefit. The fin tube is nice, but it cools rather quickly after the pump stops. The cast iron stays "warm" for a longer period after the pump stops. More of the heat is radiant than convective. The trim doesn't fall off or get banged up or rust in the bathroom as easily as fin tube with metal enclosure.

You will however have to pay 5-6 times more per foot for cast iron. I have installed a surprising amount of it lately in brand new homes and remodels
