Replacing Peerless 4 section in NYC

Member Posts: 1
I have a peerless Ec-03 4 section oil boiler that cracked and needs to be replaced. I have colonial home that is about 1800 square feet. I am thinking about switching to gas, how do I know what size and brand gas boiler to get to replace the old Peerless? And is switching to gas a good idea now? The gas compnay here offered to replace the old boiler with a new Burnham IN5 gas boiler for about $4000, is this a good price? I am not sure exactly what I am going to do at this point and I am looking for some guidance. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

pricing etc
Welcome to the wall. We generally don't discuss specific pricing here.
The Peerless EC is a realtively recent boiler and may still be covered under some sort of waranty. A good contractor will be able to advise you of this. We have in the past done warranty replacment on boilers we did not sell. Peerless has a good record with waranty claims.
As far as gas vs oil goes, If you have oil you can shop around. If there is good competition in your marketplace then oil is the route to go . If you only have one fuel oil dealer then gas may make more sense. Oil technology is now as clean burning as gas.
The real point is to choose a contractor who can answer all your questions , has a good reputation and is referred to you by others as having done good work., You will also have success with the "Find a Contractor " section of this site.It is located at the top of the page.
How did the boiler crack?
