Chiney liner

Many variables here, Wayne. General speaking, a tiled lined chimney in good condition will be OK for the Buderus. If it's in good condition and in conditioned space. A outdoor chimney should be lined as the flue gasses will deteriorate the liner in a hurry.
Team up with a good mason or sweep and inspect EVERY chimney you tie into.
The 300 degrees is at the breech, and is much lower in the chimney itself, so be careful.

    I'm pricing

a new boiler for a customer. I'm trying to sell him on a Buderus Oil fired. I read that the flu gases can get as low as 300 F. How do I know when I need a flu liner with oil for a masonry chimney? I do mostly gas and have little experience to draw from for oil. WW

How to get in touch with a qualified chimney sweep

Hi, Wayne. You can call the National Chimney Sweep Guild at 317 837 1500 and they will refer you to a CSIA certified sweep in your area. I just had my fireplace & heat chimneys cleaned and inspected with a camera. Talk about a learning experience! There's a lot more to chimneys than most people think, and the CSIA sweeps know what they are about. If you find a guy you can work with, keep the name in your biz card file, and then you can have an expert on call when you run into a chimney issue that you don't feel comfortable diagnosing.
