Gorton Valves for Steam System

P Eddy
P Eddy Member Posts: 5
I have read in several places that Gorton makes the best valves for steam systems - but I have no way of finding a dealer in my area that sells them. The phone number is not on the goton website (gorton-valves.com), and e-mails have not been returned. I live on the South Shore of Massachusetts. Anyone have any ideas how I can find some of these valves. I'm hoping they will do the trick in evening the heat distribution of my one-pipe system. I think the valves I have now are on the cheap side. Thanks.

If you can't find Gortons check out Hoffman made by Bell and Gosset a sub div of ITT... Both a good valve but I feel Hoffman looks and feels better.....

Sorry Big Ed...........I've used both extensively, but..........

I will take the fat, ugly chick (Gorton) with the pure heart OVER the sleek, Beauty (Hoffman). Bottom line......Hoffman are good ...but there really is NO substitute for a Gorton #2 - fastest vent in th West!!! Call Gorton Direct the are in Cranford New Jersy...tell em the steam fanatics at THE WALL SENT ya Mad Dog

As a homeowner I followed the advice of the boys on the Wall and went with the Gortons. Before finding the Wall they put a Hoffman 75 on and within 2 months there was a hole in the seam. Put the Gortons on and my house is warmer than it has probably been in 50 years. YOu may want to check with these guys to find out how many you need. BTW as far as the looks between the 2 the hands down winner is the Gorton. Dont you want something that looks like its got a pair?

    For what it's worth

Hoffmans usually hold up much longer than that one did. And most importantly, on Bryan's Vapor system we located the proper places to put the Gortons- one at the end of each steam main and one on the dry return to vent the radiators.

I'd hate to be Bryan's oil supplier now!

    Steamhead,
You are correct and in all fairness to the Hoffman, they installed it wrong. Was not up on a nipple so it was bound to fail. Regardless I couldnt be happier with them Gortons. Its like night and day from what I had.

    ahhhh

I should have been more specific. I believe the mains are working fine. I put hoffman's on the mains last year and noticed an improvement. what I'm looking for is the best valves for the radiators.

I love the Gorton radiator valves too

The hold up a long time. For a nice slow steady vent on large rads i love the Hoffman #40. What i don't care for and I used to think were great are Varivalves by heat timer. They are VERY finicky and if the rads spit a little these puppies will pour water out on to the floor like a faucet. Mad Dog

    peddy, you could use....................

Vent-rite #1. These are adjustable , with alittle of your time you will be able to get every room the same temp at the same time. You can also get them at the same place I posted above. Open box completely and you will find out how. Hope this helps John@Reliable

    Gorton vents and valves

    Peddy:
Go with the Gortons. We have them and they are terrific. As someone else mentioned call them at (908) 276-1323. Speak to Ken. He is terrific. The Hoffman's are junk compared to Gorton
