radiant

In an earlier thread, Dave Yates mentioned a product that could be installed over an existing concrete floor that was only 1/2" thick. I'm interested to know what this product is.

Thanks.

    Floating 1/2\" radiant floor!

    Andy,

Attached is a photo of Stadler's floating floor. This is also the same product as Wirsbo's Quik Trak & we utilized it on this job when the GC whacked our in-floor tubing (after we'd instructed him - NO NAILS IN THE CONCRETE). With just two weeks to move in date, we had to find a product that would work without major changes (they'd already installed all the doors & trim). Please note the thin foam pad the floor is floating upon.

So, Kevin's question is a valid one. The thing is, your floor was already a radiant application, as was this home's floor. So, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over the insulation situation.

If wanting to fasten directly to the floor, we've installed 1/2" plywood sheeting first (using pin shots) & then fastened the 1/2" Quik Trak to the plywood. I've been told it's ok to fasten the QT directly to the concrete floor, but that'd take a ton of fasteners!

This room was to receive carpeting, hence the plywood filler strips along the edge for the tack strips.

You can also find other products such as Watts SubRay that can be installed in a similar manner.

    radiant

We've installed radiant on top of exsisting concrete floors with Climate panel/quick track.

We use carpet pad type insulation and attach the panels with a trakfast gun.It shoots a pin simular to a Hilti type but operates on gas and is much cheaper per shot.
