    I love to

Sing. I sang my first solo at age nine back when I was still a high tenor. Been singing with various groups ever since. Made a couple recordings with a gospel quartet that I was with for 10 years. Still have some tapes and CD's left from that. I am in love with a 66 Fender Jazz Bass that I bought used when I was 14. They will bury me with that guitar just in case a bass player is needed on resurrection morning. (g) A fairly new USA made Fender Strat satifies the need for serious noise and an Alvarez Yairi model acoustic for when things are mellow.
My taste in music runs from Beethoven and Bach to ZZ Top and about anything inbetween except punk and that mindless yelling they call rock today. Give me some LedZep or Metallica over anything currently.

So I guess you could say my hobby is music.

Also enjoy gun collecting, canoeing, hiking, camping, walks in the woods or along the river, birdwatching, hunting, target shooting, fishing, (THE SALMON ARE COMING!!) yard work, (yes I know I'm wierd) but I do enjoy it. And........ OH YES!!!!!!! HYDRONICS of all shapes and sizes.

Hunting, shooting, building wildcats that shoot, have a 65 bug at about 90% restored and am about to start a 82 Landcruiser (BJ42)that I bought new in 81. It has 450,000 kms on the odo - but the body is a traffic trap. Work is my must serious hobby though - my lady said we'd have a dozen kids around here if I were home more! Kids, family, grandkids - it's a full house at holidays. The Viessmann boys have been trying to lure me ( pun intended) to go salmon fishing with the big kings and coho running about now - but bull elk open is a few days - it's a tough choice! Great read from all the wallies - what a diverse bunch we are! Cheers from the Rocky mountains of B.C.

    Violins

I got into making violins about 10 years ago, and it has proved to be a great stress reliever, and a very relaxing and rewarding hobby.

Here is a picture of one recently finished. Also a picture of an electric cello that I made last year.

    WetStock jam?

Sounds like a plan...maybe we can form "the Traveling Wetheads", if Wayco Wayne or you can sing like Roy Orbison!

    Tubes indeed!!

I have a 60's vintage Supro combo amp (all tube) with a pair of 12" Celestion speakers in it that will wail with the best. Crank it and the Strat up to full gain and it'll sustain for 5 minutes all by itself. (slightly hyperbolous statement) . For the bass I went solid state. 150Watt Peavey with a seriously heavy 15" speaker. Nice amp but worse than a boiler to drag around. Still have the sound gear from the quartet. Carver 1500 watt amp, A pair of JBL's, Soundcraft mixer board, Kurzweil PC-88 keyboard............ Need the work trailer and Super Duty to haul it all to a WetStock.

    NICE

Real nice!! How long does it take to build a violin like that? What do they sell for? That is a beautiful piece of maple on the back. (looks like maple from here at least)

    Thanks Steve

It's hard to keep track of the hours, but my nearest guess would be that I get about 200 to 250 hours into them.

The back is Big Leaf Quilted Maple from oregon, and the top is a European Spruce. Ebony trimmings and ivory nut, saddle, and inlay.

The ones that I have sold have gone to family members or friends, So I don't even get minimum wage. But they should sell for around $3,500.00 to $5,000.00

    JBL'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Early on in the garage days, we kept the PA equipment at my house because that is where we practiced.( I was REAL popular in the neighborhood!)

I took my bed down and would throw a matress over the JBL's for a bed!

    Ahhhhhhhh............Life as a rock star!!

    Hobbies

When I actually get a chance...

I like to ride ATV's. I just bought a brand new Arctic Cat, very nice. (I ALWAYS tread lightly on public land!)

Other hobbies are building screaming fast computers, and believe it or not, I play in a brass quintet. I am the tuba player (actually went to college for Music Eduacation! For some reason I decided to go into the family business, go figure.)

    Again, when I get time!

Making fun panels when not trying to finish the boiler room and radiators which is my only plumbing job which is really cool but far over-enginereed because of this site and Dan's books but cut my oil bill in half.

    Hobbies

Here's a different one for you... I'm a Civil War re-enactor. Captain of the 3rd Missouri Dismounted Cavalry. We were hoping to participate in the 140th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg until they rescheduled it and we couldnt reschedule our vacations. So we lived to fight another day I guess.
I also enjoy writing, mostly nonfiction (remember the days of talking poetry, Dan?), genealogy research, and trying to wrangle two growing boys (ages 11 and 13 - - It's quite the hormone festival).

    Boat jokes

Saw a cartoon once, "Dave". Dave is working on an old motorcycle.

His girlfriend asks "Dave, why do you spend all your money on that old motorcycle?"

Dave replies," Because I can't afford to spend all my money on an old boat yet!"

Loved it!, Oh yeah, I have both. (MC & boat) Overtime Please!!! :)

    The Dragon

It is an adaptation of a small suncatcher design by Jillian Sawyer. I made this one about 34 inches high, added the background and made some changes in glass used. Sort of got carried away.

I love reading and antique gas engines.

I love to read. Just about everything except fiction.
How to books of old technology are great. From flintknapping (that's flaking arrowheads like the Indians did it) to foundry work such as casting missing engine parts. Theology and apologetics (giving a logical reason for and defense of Biblical ideas.)is a favorite topic too. By the way, the Bible is the #1 Best Seller of all time, have you ever read it through for yourself?
I also love hunting down and restoring old hit and miss, spoked-flywheel gas engines. I pull them out of the trees or iron pile and get them unstuck, loosened up, make or find missing parts and enjoy watching them run the old flat-belt equipment they were designed for such as water pumps, generators, feed grinders, corn shellers, washing machines, bone grinders etc... If you could turn me on to any of these, no matter how badly rusted, stuck, or incomplete, I would sure appreciate it!By the way, I'm not sure I could honestly pass the "lottery test" that Dan talks about. I mean, I enjoy my work, but if I didn't need the money, I would be doing a lot more playing.
Thanks guys for letting me be a part of this forum. Kevin

    The Great Escape

We love to get away to my in-laws retirement home on a private lake. The kids love water with boating, fishing, and skiing. and the occasional bon-fire by the lake. It is so relaxing. My 12-year old is learning to slalom, my 2-12 year old loves being a fish.

There is a blue-heron that "haunts" the lake and it is beautiful to watch.

    Serious JBL's

Mark> I wish I had pics to show you of the system my cousin hauled up here for the annual 4th of July sing-along here in Falmouth. He owns/operates a company called Amplified Audio out of Grand Haven, Mi. and has his little paws on some VERY serious gear. We had to run 5, 20 amp, 120V circuits to power up the rack of amps. A total of 34,000 watts output. When he got up to about 40% power they would start popping breakers. At that power level you could hear it over a mile away. AND TALK ABOUT JBL's!!! 6 subwoofer cabinets with a pair of 18's in each,(He has over 20,000 watts driving just those.) 2 low mid's with a pair of 15's, 8 mid-high range cabinets with a three way setup, 15", 8" and a horn. Talk about HONK!! I was playing my bass in the pre show jam session/warm-up and people a block down the road said their windows and doors were rattling!!! His motto is "no such thing as too much power". Course he does this for a living so I guess he better have the best.

I bought this as a real fixer-upper in 1984, (it was a mess), and I have owned it ever since. I spent almost 20 years fixing it up, until it is now almost perfect in and out. It is really my pride and joy. My son is in the photo. It was taken last summer when he was 11.

    The Great Escape

I am a student of golf. Just started my first full year and am really enjoying it. My goal next year would be to break into double digits for 18 holes. Patience is the key.
I really love to get away to my in-laws lake about an hour from here. They retired and we built this house (no radiant, which they highly regret) and it is a wonderful retreat for us. Boating, Skiing, innertubing, fishing, watching the kids play, the occasional bon-fire, and with a 12 year old boy and a 2-12 yr old girl, general mayhem.

    The Great Escape

I have recently become a student of golf. I am really enjoying it. The people I golf with enjoy it too in that I really make them look good. I am hoping to break into double-digits next year.

Also love to tinker in the garage. I like to build new and different things. I built a 8' round desk out of Swanstone for our front counter. I am currently building a pair of "Hydronic Bookends" for my Hydronic library. I have a couple of old Brass Impellers from some B&G 1510 base-mounted pumps that I am mounting. One impeller is about 10" in diameter, 2-12" thick, and weighs around 40 lbs. That baby slung some water in its day. Should be a little different when it's done. I will post some pictures.

My real relaxation comes on the weekend when we escape to my in-laws house on a lake. Boating, fishing, skiing, innertubing, kneeboarding, the occasional bon-fire, and the joy of watching my kids play.
Although its not a hobby, there is nothing I'd rather be doing than being with my wife and kids. They are truly a gift from God. My heart goes out to all of those who lost family and friends on 9-11. It makes me cherish my time with family that much more.

    Regards,

    PR
