Don't listen to the Firedragon on this issue! These room heaters are 100% OK for Mass as long as they are the vented models we've done them for years. Your Distributor is Nelson/Small in Portland Maine. They work great typical Japanese product put it in and walk away.

Rinnai heaters code approved in Mass?
Hi everyone
Is the Rinnai ventless gas heater legal? I hate it when home-owners hand me a web print out and I don't know what I'm talking about

I highly doubt it!
The MA Fire Marshal's Office has always been opposed to non-vented heaters of any kind and will probably always be based on past experience with these type of heaters.
Two options:
1. Call the Marshal's Office in Stow, MA and ask for 'Code Enforcement'. Larry or Wayne should know. Sorry I don't have the number, I'm O-T-R.
2. Ask the OEM to produce a letter from the DPS proving that they have obtained approval.
Other than that, forget it, FACT!0 -
I understand that
the un-vented heater people have been lobbying pretty actively in Mass. to get approval for unvented heaters.
Rumor has it that it is going to happen just not sure when.
I would suggest getting in touch with state code people to find out.0 -
thanks guys
I'll sell the higher priced stuff!

Rinnai has many "vented" products that are approved in Mass, and a high end products ( is that what you ment ? ).
We have used their room heaters and just recently their wall hung HWH. I think they make a good product.

vented/non-vented
Yes Joel, I meant the ventless when I first posted the message- even Rinnai emailed me to confirm that the ventless is indeed not approved

I thought what was what I said!
I wasn't referring to the vented models, but the unvented models. I checked just today, nothing's changed!0
