Stranded on an island -- what movie and CD
Tundra

I had the pleasure one summer of working on a fishing boat that only had one 8 Track tape. To this day I can't hear "Up on the Roof Top" without going into convulsions. No Thanks!
Could I trade my music and video for a friendly brunette who loves to cook and whose father was a Brew Master?

A little pre-holiday distraction
I was in the middle of writing when a song just came on the radio, one of the best Motown hits -- "Just Ask the Lonely" by the Four Tops. It got me thinking about music and its importance as a distraction to our busy work lives. I also thought about the importance of movies, too, as an escape.
So, if you were stranded on an island with only one movie and one CD (or tape or album), what movie and CD would you choose?
I'd probably pick a long movie like "Midway" and an album with a variety of different tunes like the Beatle's "White Album."
How about you?
(I also reserve the right to change my mind later.)0 -
\"Castaway\" and theme from Giligan's Island.
Wilson agrees with this, too.0 -
i would
pick "The Hunt for Red October" and Alabama's Greatest's Hits.0 -
There are so many to choose
But If I had to pick it would be ...
Forrest Gump
Romantic Warrior by Return to Forever ( Chick Corea )
or
Sargent Peppers and Field of Dreams

I'd round up all the usual suspects
Cassablanca for the movie and Stan Rogers - Home in Halifax , wishing I was home in Cherbrook now.0 -
And just how
would I be able to listen to a CD or watch a movie on this island???
Ok. I'll play.
Movie would be either "The Patriot" or "The Lord of the Rings".
CD would be either "Judas Priest: Unleashed in the East" or "Metallica: Ride the Lightning".
Heavy Metal for a guy that works with HEAVY METAL!

You can take along the Professor. He can hook you up with some coconut-based CD player and crude video viewer. I'd prefer to take along Marianne and throw the movies and CD in the surf.
Any George Thoroughgood CD would work, too -- cranked up to 10.0 -
Maximum Overdrive soundtrack (AC/DC did all the songs)
Toss-up between Southpark--Bigger, Longer & Uncut and Auntie Mame (Rosiland Russell sp?). Both are hysterical to me every time I watch. Would HAVE to have something funny in that situation...
Mary Ann. Ginger was too high maintenance and Mrs. Howell too delicate.0 -
Good one Noel, but....
you would be banging your head between two coconuts after a few hours of the "Gilligan" theme!
What about that "Old and in the Way" CD you lent me? I listen to the copy I made every time I sit outside or BBQ!
I think "Animal House" was just released on DVD.0 -
how about.........
Kelly's Hero's or The Transporter (both real guy flicks) and Lynyrd Skynyrd cranked to 11. And a washed up cooler of Guiness, Marianne is cuter but I've heard good things about Ginger,Dave0 -
Yeah, that would be better
Wilson likes Jerry, too.

THE PROFESSOR!!!!!!
So ME will be there too?!?!?!?!?
COOL!!!!!!

I wouldn't take you for a Metallica fan Mark
Good choice though , one of my favorites too .
Mine would be Clerks for the movie , or John Carpenter's remake of The Thing . You need some comedy and horror stranded on an island . For music it would probably be Guns n Roses - Use Your Illusion II . Axl Rose was a pompous jerk , but that band made some great music .0 -
I would also
take Casablanca. "You played it for her you can play it for me-PLAY IT".
For the CD it would have to be the Boss' greatest hits but I'd try to sneak in 'Ol Blue Eyes with an old one called "Watertown".0 -

I would have never put those choices in music with those names.I'll have to go with Hitchcock and "North by Northwest" and for music I'll go with Supertramp "Crime of the Century" or "Even in the Quietest Momonts"

it was

\"She wrote a long letter........
.....on a short piece of paper..."
Ahhh, the Wilburys...Good stuff, that!
I'd have to say either E.L.O "New World Record" or Rush "2112"
DVD- The Big Chill, 2001-A Space Odyssey, or The Lost Boys
Starch0 -
For me...........
The "Matrix" and Dave Matthews Live...0 -
Thanks

So do you two still talk?

Pink Floyd
The Wall on both counts. How can you go wrong?0 -
I'll go with
Bruce Springsteen's Greatest Hits
and Pink Floyd's The Wall movie.
That way I'd have two great records as well as a great movie.

In High School...
...I hated Shakespear with the best of them. I slouched in my chair at the back of the classroom, enduring lethal boredom levels, as the teacher droned-on, sucking every living molecule of energy out of the room.
However, having seen Kenneth Brannagh's movie of "Henry V" - that was an eye-opener. This is a great movie! Especially the speech to rally his troops for the big battle at the end, and an awesome final battle scene. Excellent acting, and a script that doesn't rely on $100 million worth of special effects to make it watchable.
"40 Licks" by the Rolling Stones. "You're listening to island radio - all Stones, all the time."0 -
\"Cool Hand Luke\" and
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band Live/1975-1985. Although I could probably come up with another 20 sets that would substitute just fine.
Nice to be back. Hey guys!

movie & cd
Movie would have to be "Barbarosa" with Willie Nelson. CD would be "Jethro Tull" don't know the name but is a boxed set with 3 CD's - great stuff.

Desert Island...
The Moody Blues Box Set (Can I have 5 CD's?) Movie? Lord of The Rings "The Two Towers". As for the Ginger/Maryanne debate...Maryanne!!!0 -
Agree Bill
I'd change my movie choice to the "Two Towers." I bought the DVD last week and it is an awesome movie (I saw it when it first came out, too). It is my ten-year-old son's favorite movie of all-time. It might take me a few weeks on the island to figure out all of the characters and the sub-plots.0 -
Desert Island
Film, The Mission.
A morality play for our times, a conflict of convenience versus conscience.
Robert De Niro, Ray McAnally, Liam Neeson, the haunting music by Ennio Morricone (Fistful of Dollars , etc.)
I have to watch it every time its on, the story was based on historical events. Brilliant.
We must work in the world, your Eminence. The world is thus.
No, Senhor Hontar. Thus have we made the world... thus have I made it.

Music. Songbird by Eva Cassidy.
The voice! From Washington (I think) she sold about 400 copies of her records in her lifetime and died at 33. A BBC radio DJ played one of her tracks and was inundated with requests for repeats. A recently released compilation album went straight to the top of the album charts.
Desert Island Discs is the third longest running radio programme in the world.
