well pumps and a yard hydrant ?

I have very little experience with wells and I have an odd situation.
A good customer has a barn out back with a yard hydrant that is leaking. We can't shut it off to repair it. She has well water and when I shut off the main at the tank I still get full preasure out in the barn.
There is no town water on the property and no preasure tank out in the barn.
Could this hydrant come right from the well head ?
Could it come from a spring and have good preasure ?
Any help would be appreciated.

It might
be connected on the line between the pump and tank.I've seen it done this way.I wouldn't recomend it but people do it.
Shut the power off to the pump and drain down the well tank to make your repair.

Sure
Sometimes the check valve and pump are in the well, and the poly pipe is teed off on the way to the well tank.
I've seen 4 camps on a lake feeding from one well tank this way. The hydrant could, too.

But I would'nt have preasure
unless the pump was on correct ? Or would there be well preasure ?
Thanks Guys

Yes
You could still have pressure from the check valve in the pump up to the house, that's how my well works. Turn off the pump and turn on a faucet until no more water comes out.0 -
Scott, I had something like this before......................
and it drove me crazy. I shut down system and drained tank to zero but some of the "system" still had pressure. What I found was a underground well tank that had a shut off just like a water shut-off at street, once a got a 6' shut-off key and turn it off water was release thru the shut-off opening to drain tank(must admit water coming out here at first got my attention) but once it stopped pressure was gone. This was on an old farm that no one knew about the "other tank" . Also could it be that the yard one is at a low point and just might take some time to drain back?
Depending on tank size you could get 30+ gallons out. Hope this helps John@Reliable0 -
Looks like.....
the attached drawing Scott. Water does flow uphill - sometimes(G).

Thanks Guys
I should have thought of turning off the power.
Now if I shut off the power and have full preasure .... aaahhhhhhh.
