    Blow off pot

Dan and I were out on a job today looking at a steam system in DC. This seven-story apartment building was built in 1915. While we were looking over the job the guy that was showing us around the building says "Hey guys, would you like to see the piping diagrams for the building?". We said, "sure." This was great because we were trying to find out where the steam mains ended. So he takes us back into a room where the plans are hanging on the wall. I couldn't believe it; they were the originals from 1915. They were written on a linen cloth-like material. It was so cool. But while we were checking out the plans we noticed that there was something on the plans that is not there now. It was called a blow off pot. I've never heard of one of these before and was wondering if anyone else has. -ST

Saw one last summer on laundry design

On HP boilers you need a place to flash your bottom blow down and cool it before going to drain. Common on laundry or other high pressure steam. Lots of makeup and lots of blowdown.
Usually have a good sized vent and CW makeup to flush it out.

    Is this the same as

A blowdown separator? I've install a couple of those on process type steam boilers. They have a thermostatic probe that opens a cold water valve to temper the water down to 140* before it hits the drain.
