wood boiler tie in

do a boiler replacement next week with a wood boiler tied in.Its set up now so if the W/B gets to hot it dumps into a back room zone. The people have to leave the windows open in the winter in that room. What if I dumped it thru my oil boiler or hot watermaker? Its going to be a WGO4 & a plus 40.Could I use the amtrol hot watermaker thats going to be replaced as a storage tank for boiler water? It has a bad coil. Just a thought, thanks Dave

That dump zone idea
has always struck my as an odd solution! Generally when the boiler is that hot, all the zones are up to design. Seems wasteful to dump into a room and have to open windows What kind of comfort system is that?
I'd recommend bucking up for some nicely insulated thermal storage! Actually that collaspable tank that Tarm sells works well. I've only installed one. The soldering craftmanship was questionable. But it really is the best place to buffer.
Really once homeowners get the hang of burning wood matched to the outdoor temperature there shouldn't be a huge over run.
Kinda like grilling steaks on the bar b cue, there is always a sweet spot to be found.
Of course the ideal tie in costs more. I like a P/S but a lot depends on the type of wood unit you go with, the load, etc. It's a fun exercise.

it strikes me....
as odd how people with wood boilers(usu. frugal) won't spend the money to do it right. I have a job going presently (adding onto)and at one time last winter the set up they have on the dump zone melted the armaflex insulation off the copper! Scare me! NO pex in this system...a good dump tank is the best solution. I would wonder about the warranty issue dumping super heated water into your new boiler...kpc0 -
I agree with
Hot Rod. By far, the best wood boiler installation includes an insulated heat storage system. Without that, it is necessary that the operator be more "in tune" with the heat needs so that he loads the boiler with the amount of wood that is needed to match heat loss, ie, colder...more wood; and warmer...less wood. Some people seem to have no problem doing this very well whereas other people just are not so inclined...sort of like many things in life. It is important to say, of course, that the wood boiler should be sized properly and operating correctly. All bets are off if the boiler is too big for the job or if the combustion control(s) are not working right.

its
a waste in my mind too! All that work and it goes out the window! Problem is the people load the boiler so they don't have to go back down stairs for a bit. Dave0
