Gravity and steam?? Should it be set lower than the controll calls for to allow for the heat in the system to travel thru the house when it shuts off??If amps draw on meter reads .3 should you set the anticapator @ .1???We have alot of steam and gravity systems still in use in Maine...
ThanksAgain ..Richard

  • I think the other way

Push the anticipator to .6 for a starting point on steam. Watch it work for a day. I like 2 or 3 cycles per hour on a residential one pipe steam system, in coldish weather. More is wasteful.
the cycle length isn't as important as cycle count. Of course, it will vary, but in 30° to 50° weather, this is good to shoot for.

Also, before you do that test, do this one. When the boiler fires, hold your hand on the main riser from the header. When you pull your hand from the pipe because it's hot (yaHAHA), move your hand to the end of the main and time it. When you pull your hand from the newly hot main there (yaHAHA), less than 2 minutes should have passed. This means the other factors are close to correct. If this is true, set the anticipator for 3 cycles per hour, by adjusting up or down.

You'll be golden on the thermostat setting. Level it, calibrate it, and get paid before you go.

    If you're using...

one of our new electronic stats, start out by setting it for 1 CPH. Please don't use the T8112D for steam, it only goes down to 3 cph. Any of the other electronics can be used, but I prefer a battery powered unit for steam. Do what Noel suggested you should do, and yes, you can move up to 3 cph if that's what your system likes.
