the most productive, comfortable employees in the county! Good job Gregg. With the MASSIVE floor they've got, they'd probably be able to go without heat for a week before they even notice that the heat is off!

new land speed record..................
This is a large truck body fabrication facility. There is just over 22,000 square feet of in slab radiant. We decide to run large bore pex (1.5") undergound out to each manifold. The pex was pricey but the labor savings were incredible. The nice part is that all of the distribution piping is done and back to the boiler. No piping overhead on staging or lifts. The amazing part is that we got all of the insulation, tubing and manifolds in and tested in less than 3 days (yes they were long ones. We didn't want the owner to lose his concrete guy for another two weeks so we sucked it up and got it done. The system will be fired by two Vitola VB2-63 oil boilers. Will post pics of the finished boiler room. Thanks to our Rehau / Viessmann rep and salesmen who pitched in.

Wow
I am glad I wasn't the one tying all that pex!
You got to love it when there is little to no overhead work in a building like that.
Nice job!

Rehau Rep
Greg who is the rep for this area? How do you like working with this tubing vs wirsbo? Nice job. I drive by every day saying that buidling would be great for radiant. They won't be sorry for doing it. I did one 70 x 80 on St Paul street the guy loves it and what makes it better the other half of the building has forced air.

Nice job
What center spacing did you use? A mini tube system works real nice for those wide open spaces also. Generally 1/2 or 3/4 is adequate for distribution with mini tube injection.
They will be very pleased with that system!

Looks like ......
5/8 tubing, on 12" C, all on F/B/B/WP.....
What #'s did you use for the heat loss??? I am getting set to do a 10,000 SF job and figured that I could run 5/8 on 18" and have plenty of spare BTU's @ -10 outside with a 60* inside 110* water.... with what you got there you should be able to run some really low water temps.
Looks GREAT!!!! radiant is the ONLY way to go in a building like that!!!!0 -
what did...
you use for insulation? I can't quite tell...very nice work! kpc0 -
WoW! how many men were on the install?

I think you are right that 18" will generally work in these type of shop installs. I have used 15" as a compromise. I alternate between 12" and 18" every other loop. This allows every tube to fall on a parallel grid on the mesh.
Hard to keep a tube tied between the squares, I've found. Seems the concrete shoves it one way or another.
This link has some data on tube spacing.

Nice work
Nice looking job. Any concerns with flow on the Rehau manifold due to it's small bore? What is the Cv per loop? I have been using Wirsbo's new True Flow which has an inch and a half bore and is pretty competitive with the Rehau one. I also like thier new balancing tools. Great job!!!!!!!
