Where were you when the lights went out?

Ironically, I haven't travelled for business all summer and the one day I finally have to go, this happens. My plane touched down in Chicago at almost the exact time the blackout occured. The power is on around here but I keep thinking about my family in the dark back in the Detroit area. I'd prefer to get right back on the plane and be with them. Luckily, my business wraps up this morning and I will head back home -- whether by air or rental car!
I see that our News' Web site is down as well as e-mail. So, I'll take most of the day off!
I hope other folks in the Northeast can stay calm and let the power slowly come back up. Acting irrationally and getting mad only worsens the problem. Please keep calm and stay close to your family -- if possible.

Trying to finish wiring up a 6 zone boiler
Never got to check my work. Thank GOD it ain't winter yet. My State Guard Unit was on standby, but after 9pm rolled around, we were told that power grids were coming back, so we hung out on the block with neighbors pounding beers in the Dark....what a night. Mad Dog Its great to have power again

Blackout
I was getting a haircut, of all things.0 -
Nuts, but;
if you thought of it you could have just pulled that hair out, since only one hair is not that bad. Now had you said you were getting MY hair cut, or SOME hair cut, I could see a funny looking hair-do! but a haircut? I'd almost bet the barber would charge as much for ALL your hair cut as he must surely do for A haircut! JMTT (just my thought today) signed by: a blackout!0 -
in wedding mode
My daughter got married at 5pm - power went out at 4:15. Some of you may remember her "Japan plumbing story" from 2 1/2 years ago. They will make there home in Japan. Enjoy....Dan

I was sitting
in my office A.C. blasting away, typing on my computer. Completly oblivious to anything happening, until I turned on the 6 o'clock news. Of course, that happens when you dont live in an area that was affected

lights out
Did the lights go out here......noooooooooooo!!!
Maine might be considered a deep woods, backward state by some, but by gosh, we got lights!!!!!
Just a little tongue in cheek here guys, I'm glad we didn't have the trouble you had, but you should have seen the storm we had here Weds. The turnpike here is under widening construction and the folks from away who insist on snarling our traffic can't hold a candle to the rain that literally stopped traffic on the pike for about 10 minutes. I've never seen that happen before. Very common, thought, to see tourists jam our road and make life miserable for us. Can't wait for fall.......

I have a place in moscow
and i'm sorry0 -
Daddy is a good luck charm
I got out of the mess at Detroit Metro and made it home (noticing long lines at every gas station and half of the traffic lights out). I walked in the door and within an hour the power was back on. My family suffered while I suffered little. They get dinner out tonight!0 -

I had just left NY
upstate and had fueled up the car when the power went out. Traveled the interstate so I didn't have any problems. If I hadn't fueled up before it happened I would have been forced to pull over and raise the pop up, and camp out until it was over. WW

blackout 2003
In the midwest I didn't know about the blackout until the radio had a news anouncement. What stuck me strange was during the evening news, the anouncer said 50 million people where without power. My 13 year old daughter couldn't grasp the reality of how large an area and the number of people affected.
Had to feel sorry for all the folks walking home, trying to reach family and friends. To make arrangements for day care and pick up kids at day care etc..
I hope everyone is managing okay.0
