the home is finally completed. We just started up the ice melt today, not that it is needed! This is one of the most enjoyable projects to date. The contractor's party is in September and I can't wait to show this one off.

    nice!!!

    HB,

Nice, neat work. Where's the diamond plate?? Several questions: Who makes the flat expansion tank? Did you fabricate the bracket for the heat exchanger? Is that a pressuretrol on the snowmelt side of the heat exchanger? What are the two square white boxes to the right? As usual, top shelf. Keep up the great work!!! -DF

    The owner..........

didn't want the diamond plate. We settled on this. Plenty more diamond plate to come, though.

Yes, that is a Honeywell pressuretrol. Make on rise. A low water cut-off would have done very little in this application because the ice melt is above the panel. The pressure switch is set to cut-out at 5 PSI and shuts off the pumps so the don't dead head upon a loss of pressure in the system. The only thing that starts the system is a 12 hour timer located in the garage. The ice melt is located on the north side of the home and the owner just wants to keep the walk and porch clear of ice build up. I'm not going to actually start the boiler when the ice melt is required. The cold water return will automatically ramp up the Matrix burner input on the Vitodens and if it is cold enough, I'll already have elevated boiler water temps. If I need to, I can send an external override signal to the Vitodens and run it up to limit if it won't melt quick enough for the owner.

The heat exchanger bracket is an option from Flat Plate. I don't know how many more of their HXs I'll be using since they fibbed about the shipping date. Too many other places I can purchase HXs ( Tony Conner!) to tolerate lip service from any manufacturer.

The compression tank is a Watts model. There is not much room in the way of expansion, but it works for this small panel. Cool looking, too.

Thanks for the nice words, Dan. Sorry I'm going to miss you at the ECL training.

    The boiler.......

is located up in the garage, Paul. Due to venting limitations, I was unable to mount the boiler next to the panel :-( Wish I could have.
