Old GE Vertical Boiler

Hello to all:
I need some help with getting info (ratings sheets etc) on the old GE Vertical steam boilers. I have come across what I believe to be one, becuase it has an old GE pressuretrol on it as the only identifier. The burner is a Carlin 99FRD fireing down into the boiler and the flue pipe comes out of the side on the bottom. There is a DHW coil that sticks out of the back just under the steam supply to the house. On the front there is an observation port at the mid point just under the LWCO and site glass. The boiler has a metal wrap around jacket that appears to have the "A" word underneath it. Needless to say We are thinking of repalceing this unit and any help would be appreciated. I can be reached at 212 822-8340 or faxes can be sent to 212 928-4180.

That's an old GE all right

but don't despair if you can't find the boiler's rating. Just measure up all your radiators and size the new steam boiler from that.

For radiator rating charts, go to the Books and More page of this site and order Dan's "E.D.R.". Also get "The Lost Art of Steam Heating if you don't have it already. Both are well worth the price.

    Old Ge Boiler

Thanks for the advice. Sizing the old boiler is not a problem. We're well versed in EDR language. I work for a nonprofit that provides gov't assistance to low income people to help with their energy needs. When we replace a boiler a rather lengthy justification is needed so if I have the rating of the old boiler it can aid me in the paperwork process. Thanks again to all with comments or suggestions.

Looks like you have found a Model LA. There were 7 sizes. LA-20 thru 54. Net steam ratings were 201 thru 1,296' EDR.
Methinks the rating plate is on the flat top sheet. Not gospel. GE had a knack for making detectives out of us.

If you find a good number, we can give you the rating. Good luck.
