Workplace violence

The August OSHA newsletter has an article on workplace violence. Here is an excerpt:

"The statistics are confusing and conflicting. Estimates run anywhere from 111,000 violent incidents per year (National Safe Workplace Institute) to nearly 1,000,000 incidents (United States Department of Justice study). Exact numbers are impossible to determine since it is estimated that more than one half of the incidents are not reported to the police. Some estimates place the costs of violence in the workforce at $4.2 billion dollars a year with $55 million dollars in lost wages alone."

This is a tragic situation that has affected our trade, too. I am curious as to whether any Wallies have experienced workplace violence or know of someone who has.

    Yes

I can't go into details, all I can say is be very, very, veeeryy sure about what you are doing before you get romantically involved with someone who works at the same company.

Once while working at a house I saw the guy next door get pummeled by a delivery driver. It seemed the driver's mom called the neighbor on a past due bill and the driver wasn't too impressed by what this guy said to his mom. That was a good show. I didn't think the human body could bounce off lawn furniture so well.
I've seen people and myself in this industry get very stressed especially in the winter when very busy. I know when I work 24/7 I am not myself. People are getting burned out too soon.
  • Affected only when I go

into my wifes office and touch anything without her permission. Then real workplace violence takes place. When you work at home and her office is downstairs and mine is upstairs staying in my own office is the safest thing I can do.

The other thing I can not understand is I am President of the company and she is Vice President/Treasurer and she makes me come to her office, makes more money than I do and works less hours.

That is real abuse. Just kidding I love working for her every day.
