Can anyone here tell me about Seidelhuber water heaters made in Seattle WA? I saw one while making a service call for other plumbing issues at work today in Seattle. The tag on front said Seidelhuber metal works of Seattle. This thing had no PT valve and I was told it had been there working just fine since the 1960s. I saw no signs of leakage or other problems. Of course I let the owner know about the danger with the missing PT valve but they did not seem interested in replacing it right now. Whoever heard of a water heater lasting since the early 60's?

Just curious about the story with Seidelhuber.

I once saw a Ruud Monel heater

that looked like it was installed in the 1940s and was still working! But the owner was nervous, so we changed it. It didn't have a T&P either.

I have not seen one of those, my guess is it's an electric water heater with direct immersion elements, probably cement lined also, am I right. Canal boiler works made many of these in the 50s and 60s. Many are still in operation today.

    Think I would insist

on a T&P valve being installed. Might even do it at "no cost" just for your own piece of mind.

Some contractors will have the owner sign a invoice showing they refused the installation of an important devise. Heck for the cost of the valve and time involved, why not just install a freebie and gain a "protected" customer.
