vertical insulation for pads

with insulation underneath and vertically around the pad. My question is how do you protect the vertical insulation after you take the concrete form away. Also, how would you do it on a sidewalk for snow melt? Thanks for you comments in advance. WW

So U wanna \"Brainstorm\"?
Well here goes, How about redwood batting placed inside the form, and then the insulation inside of that. Underneath the slab treated with a good bug killer (terminix) on the earth. Like i said, brainstorm!0 -
one idea
I'll see if I can locate some other ideas for you.

what most ICF...
contractors use is a fiberglass mesh then trowel over a polymer of stuccolike mixture. The contactor I do work for uses Amvic styrofoam forms. kpc0 -
Wow!
that's pretty fancy. I was just going to bend some flashing, (coil stock actually) at 90 degree angles and sticking one side on top of the concrete, under the plate of the wall that will soon be installed and the other covering and protecting the insulation. I have a roll of thin foam insulation to separate the concrete from the coil stock. I just am having trouble imagining what to do for the sidewalk snow melt. Maybe the stucco is the way to go. WW

For buildings on slabs
I have used your idea of breaking some coild stock to "create" a flashing. The metal building suppliers have a "rat guard" flashing that comes real close to this.
I also discovered my local Home Depot rents those 10 foot long metal breaks for bending flashing, soffit trim, etc. Design and build your own flashing! Plenty of coil stock material and color available from aluminum, galv, stainless, copper, brass, etc.
Best I have come up with for drives or side walks is just hold the insulation down an inch to allow the landscaping to hide the edge.
Side walks, driveways, and garage slab to drive way connections are a challange. Yet to find a perfect solution.
