Quantum 90 boilers??

Does anyone out there have any input on the Dunkirk/Ultimate/Quantum 90 boiler? Would also like to know if they have had any problem with the LP conversions.
Have a customer who thinks this is what they want, but I have not installed, or seen one operating around here.
I don't need to hear about the other options on boilers since I have been installing Vitodens, other Veissmann, Buderus, and others for years, but just want to know more about this boiler so I can correctly inform the customer. I already know they are not as good as the Vitodens, but has anyone had problems with it.???
We are maily an oil-fired market w/ some LP.
thanks in advance, Steve

I have heard
of some leaking between the sections. The way aluminum moves the bolts were coming loose. I also saw one installed
and running and it was short cycling because they do not
modulate. Hope that helps.

Ignitor problems
Dunkirk was having some problems with the ignitors on these boilers, but I think they've solved the problem.

We have installed about 6 of them- no troubles at all. I have heard, like Steamhead, about ignitor troubles- but we've not experienced that. Nice boiler, the cabinet is a little flimsy, however. LP conversion was simple on the one we converted. The other are on NG, the things run nearly silent!
Hope my $.02 helps. Luke0 -
I have had ignitor problems on the Q90-75
but recently installed the grounding kit. Two other things that bother me about the boiler is that there is no insulation. Heat gets wasted to the basement from the heat exchanger.... not so bad in the winter, but makes the AC work more in the summer. The second is that everything is in the cabinet... like the PRV that often needs to be replaced after a few years.

Thanks for the responces
I gather from the comments that I'm not going to rush out and use one of these boilers.
leaking sections, bad ignition, and poor insulation are real issues I would rather avoid.

Q90-Boilers
Hi All:
Just reviewed the thread below - need to apply a little fact to some fiction.
The Quantum Series boiler (Qunatum Leap and Q90) originally hit the market in 1996 with the introduction of the 95% AFUE Quantum Leap Boiler - a few years later - we introduced the Quantum 90. The Q90 is a simpler version of the Quantum Leap using the same heat exchanger.
Our population of units in the field is over 5000 units in the field - efficienty heating homes and saving consumer money.
The boiler offers definite advantages over the competition:
***90% AFUE Efficiency
***PVC Venting
***Ability to operate at low return temps without heat exchanger protection
The Q90 is a reliable heating system designed to maximize installers profits and minimize consumers fuel bills.
The string points outlines two (2) problems that have been seen in the field - igniter reliability and casting leaks.
Dunkirk Boilers did identify through the help of many quality installers a potential sensing problem with the igniters. The igniters in many cases were not cracked, but the boiler would not continue firing. In many cases when these "defective" igniters were returned our engineering team found that they worked perfectly. We did however find in the field that the flame signal strenght on some units with igniter problems was low. A ground wire kit was developed (now standard production) to improve signal strenght. With the ground wire kit installed, units that had ingiter problems - operated without issue.
Dunkirk Boilers warranty the Quantum Series boielr heat exchanger for 15 years. We have seen some leaks in the field, but not at levels higher than expected with boilers. Dunkirk stands behind all of these units as outlined in our warranty documents.
Dunkirk continues to look at the Quantum Series boilers for improvement and enhancement. We are close to rolling out the Q90-200 which will provide firing rates from 125,000 to 200,000. On the larger units we are in development of an optional modulating design.
We encourage you to e-mail your ideas on how we can improve our products and service.
We apprecaite the support of all those who have purchased and installed the Quantum Series or any of the Dunkirk Boiler product.
Thanks for your support.
