This paragraph packs a visceral punch:

" A hotel air-conditioning system was implicated in the defining outbreak of Legionnaires' disease at an American Legion convention in Philadelphia in 1976, although newer data indicate that hotel water may have caused the problem."

didnt read your link, however its general knowledge that there was a cross connection at the cooling tower loop with no backflow or even a check valve. that coupled with the poorly treated tower did them in.

    legionar's hot tub

Don't think that the hot tub dealer used enough chemicals.Question is did the water supply at the arena introduce the bacteria to the tub or did it come from an improperly treated display tub at the dealers showroom?

    water fountains

Now I know why I never use water fountains in public buildings. Nothing like stagnant water in a closed up building to grow goo in. Except maybe that electric waterheater in the basement that's valved of all heating season while the domestic coil on the boiler is making hot water, and gets turned on for the summer to "save" on oil.
