I would also replace the boiler. Especially if the boiler has not been serviced regularly. 50 years is a ripe ol' age. I would also consider the cost of maintaining a boiler that age. Alot of effieciency can be lost all together from a boiler that old

oversized steam boiler
we have a steam boiler which is approximately 50 years old. a measurement of the radiation load by a qualified technician determined that the boiler is oversized(815 square feet of steam actual versus 600 square feet of steam required).considering this oversizing and the improved operating efficiency of a new boiler, does it make sense to replace the old boiler?0 -
