    Gravity Furnace Grills

My 1927 home was originally heated by a furnace in the basement. The registers in the house appear to be solid brass with metal grillwork in them. All of the grills have been damaged, but I have part of one. I am looking for replacement grillwork. The name "No Streak" appears at the bottom of each register.
    I appreciate any help.

an architectural salvage company if there's one in your area. We have a relatively new one in Baltimore and they have lots of these grilles.

    Solid brass grills

If they really are solid brass, do you have any idea what on earth damaged them?

Again, if solid brass, replacement in kind will be extremely expensive. The VAST majority of period grills you will find are iron. Unless you luck into something original solid brass grills are 1) sold to people on "if you find it" lists 2) even more expensive than reproductions.

The brass framework that sits on the wall at baseboard level is approximately 12 inches tall by 12 inches wide. What is damaged is the grillwork that fit into the brass frame. The damage was caused by some previous owner who , I presume, wanted to direct the air so they cut a rectangular hole in the grill and inserted a modern day register into the hole. If you want, I'll send you a photo. Thanks for your help and advice.
