Wirsbo - Good or Bad?

Eric Spors
Eric Spors Member Posts: 1
I would like to know how hot of water can be used in wirsbo tubing.
We're using it for a radiation system and were wondering if it will hold up to the high water temperatures required for a 8 unit apartment building. There's been speculation that the rings used for wirsbo fittings are bound to break from high temperatures.
Could anyone please tell me what the answers are to my questions? And if wirsbo isn't the thing to use, what is? - Thank you

Eric ... What are your design water temps?...

Standing cast iron radiation can be as low as 120 or as high as 190. Baseboard 140 to 190. The only way to determine this is to know your heat loads space by space and then the heating capacity of your heating units in the space. More info is needed to answer your question.

I have been using wirsbo tubing for radiant for 25 years.I have been using it to supply fin tube, unit heaters etc.for 5 years. we use it with hi limit settings of 200 degrees and no ill effects.I do however use a secondary hi limit in case of aquastat failure. If you make proper allowances for expansion you will have no problems with 200 degree water. My experience is real world every day not theoretical. It works in the real world.

    Try Wirsbo MultiCor

Wirsbo Multicor PEX-Al-PEX works extremely well for radiators or baseboard applications. It also costs a little less than hePEX.

  • Good.

As PEX temperature rises-> the bursting pressure decreases.

I'm guessing but, It's probably what most of the guys here on The Wall use. Wirsbo PEX is good stuff but, it's certainly not the only good stuff PEX out there.

It holds temperature and pressure with the best of them. Competetors will allways speculate about the connection failures of anothers system. Why do you think they would do that?

I allways say the BEST PEX is sold by the wholesaler that takes good care of you. I happen to like Kitec right now.

What Temp. & Press. you running?

    Great

We've installed many thousands of feet of Hepex for radiant, baseboard, fan coils over the last 10 years and the stuff has had no problems to speak of.

    Well said Gary........

I should have mentioned that I would not recomend using any pex in a high temp application unless you are pumping away from the boiler.Flashing steam will destroy any pex tubing and this can happen at below 212 degrees with a circulator on the return.

    Which fitting???

the expanding one with the pex ring... or the compression???

    Does it matter???

    Fittings

I've been useing the expansion fitting with the pex ring since they came out four or five years ago I guess.

I'd use more multi core if they had a better fitting system.Something other than those big cumbersome compression fittings that are a pain to connect to fintube.Hint, hint anyone listening at Wirsbo????

    Wirsbo ProPex rings

I wouldn't worry about the integrity of the compression rings. They're made of the same material as the tubing. They see the same temperatures. The tubing will fail long before a ring lets go.
