steam system

I agree with Al. A 1200 sq. ft. addition is large and will require a heat load calculation to see if your system can handle it. Is it several rooms?, a great room?, how much glass?,ceiling height, etc, etc. Do your self a favor, talk to a contractor in your area.

I am doing a addition on a house where the existing house is steam. I would like to know if it possible to run a loop of baseboard off the bottom of the boiler.and how to pipe that.or is it best to just put a seperate boiler to heat about 1200 sq feet of space and answers would help.

    steam system add on zone

It's possible to do,Shawn, but you need to be careful about how you go about it.First, you're dealing with water a lot hottter that 180 when tapping off the bottom of a steam boiler, and you have to account for that in your planning.
If you're considering a separate boiler and the extra cost of one, it may be wise to consider upgrading the whole system.
If you're not a contractor, go to the find a contractor portion of this site and get some professional help. This kind of job is not for the DIY-fer.
    Good luck.
