Cold water and Cast Iron

Sounds pretty good so far.
I've got cast iron rads too and I'll be ripping out the basement floor next month and installing radiant in the new slab, and I'll be adding some staple-up under the kitchen and entry hall floors (both are tile), and I'm finally going to get around to doing indirect DHW. So this should be an interesting mix.
I was at the Viessmann training for the Vitodens - both the training and boiler are first-class. And the tech support so far is excellent.
But the WM is interesting from a price perspective and it has a lot of bits included in the basic product that are extra cost items with the Vitodens. And WM has a better consumer heat exchanger warranty -- can't figure that one out -- Viessmann's warranty on the bi-ferral is way better than on the Vitodens -- I wonder why it's less on the Vitodens than WM.

Here's what happens.....
when you run a cast iron boiler continually @ 110*0 -
here's what can take it..
and...
better yet this boiler will NEVER cycle....
I'm gonna give this Weil a "real life" test...
24/7/365.... 120* in 140* out.......on LP
I'll let you's know how many days straight she can run!!!!!0 -
HEY!
You said you were gonna' wait ten years before you tried that new fangled technology!
Why the change of heart?

It's all Dan's fault...
He made fun of me in that P&M article.......
So I HAD to try it out and see for my self...:-)
No, truthfuly, I figured that I had a perfect oppurtunity
here, to put one of these through a great test!!!!!
By the way... I have one in my house, and I have two Munchies
In a big log house that I did, also....
Can't wait now for COLD weather.....
Got some great new equipment to play with!!!!!

Is this the first WM Ultra you've installed?
What do you think of it so far?
I've been considering either the WM Ultra or Viessmann Vitodens for my home.0 -
The Ultra.....
I have been playing with the one in my house since May....
It has worked flawlessly so far.. I have been backing the
DHW temp. down just to see how far I can go and still make hot
water. So far I am down to 90*, which lets the boiler run up
to 130*, I have the Plus 40 tank and have the t-stat on it
set at around 115*, I still have PLENTY of hot water!!!
Finally got cold enough in the house to turn the heat on,
Sat. night.... I sucker purred along @ 130* with condensate
pouring out.....my cast iron baseboard and old rads just got
warm... seems as though it should save me a bundle....
I think that I will need to find out how to turn the boost
feature off, though, I want it to run almost continuosly,
come really cold weather.
The one pictured above, is installed in a pig farrowing
facility...to warm heat plates for the little ones...
It is islated from the plate system with a FP HX as the
system is not O2 tight.....The boiler is modulating @140
which gives me 95* plates in the pig pens. Had to set the
boiler to think that it was making DHW... it worked better
in that setting.
It's pretty amazing, the boiler just purrs away and
maintains exactly 140* no cycling!!!! One boiler purring
along at 1/2 thottle has got to be way better that 2 -
250,000BTU boilers slamming on and off all the time.
And, this one is the 155....keeping up great, so far!!!
