Isolate a check valve?

Harvey,it's typical in a commercial piping job to use a triple duty valve on the discharge of the pumps. These valves have check duty, isolation and flow capabilities and make for a neat installation and are easy to service and adjust. The commercial jobs I've done in the past have used base mounted pumps with flanged connnections, and the triple duty valve bolts right to the pump. No comment on the glycol as I'm not a big fan of it.

An engineering firm from North Carolina suggests we put
an isolation valve before a check valve off Heating pumps
in a boiler room we recently completed. Being from Wisconsin and only dealing with engineers from wisconsin, I
have never heard of this before. They also suggest heat
trace tape on outside chilled water in lieu of glycol. Has
anybody ever done this? Please advise.
Thanks.

hope it 's of help
i don't know why they would want the isolation valve before may be after for posible servicing and as for the heat tape in liue of gylcol it may have a heat transfer promblem .is this for duel system with hot water and chilled water and also your cooling tower should have a electric heater and thermostat also a fan temp cycling controll . i really don't work on these systems just some process cooling equipment.we try not to use closed systems so we don't need the electric heater and heat tape because it all drains down into tanks when the unit isn't running .if you do a good heat tape job and insulate it really well which means making it weather tight you should be fine hope i was on some help good luckR.A.
